What is my niche?
(btw, I prefer to pronounce it “nee-sh”)
This question has come up a few times since I began working as a mental health professional.
I’m a trauma-focused therapist, trained at The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology and influenced by the work of Dr. Dan Allender. I have personally benefited from The Allender Center’s offerings and have long dreamed of walking with others as they process the wounds of childhood trauma.
While I do work with many people exploring childhood trauma, I wanted to share a snapshot of what my clients have been working on. Below are some approximations:
-
100% of my clients work on Family of Origin issues
-
100% have experienced attachment trauma
-
75% are processing childhood trauma
-
60% are navigating relationship issues
-
40% are working through grief
-
40% have experienced religious or spiritual trauma
Most of my clients are female/femme People of Color, especially of Asian descent. However, I welcome clients of all backgrounds who resonate with my approach—especially those seeking healing from attachment wounds and trauma.
My Approach
I incorporate:
-
EMDR, as developed by Francine Shapiro, to help process trauma and regulate the nervous system
-
Mindfulness and attachment repair, drawing from Dr. Dan Siegel’s work
-
Internal Family Systems (IFS), developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, to support clients in becoming the secure attachment figure to their inner parts
At the heart of my work is a belief in your capacity to take up space, to find your voice, and to reconnect with your inherent worth—especially in places where that may have been wounded. I hope to be a witness in your journey toward the flourishing of your MaEum (heart & brain mind).
